Correcting a Rejected Return

print page

There are many reasons why a tax return is rejected. One of the most common reasons is an incorrect prior-year adjusted gross income (AGI) that's required for an electronic signature. Other common errors include misspelled names and incorrect social security numbers or birth dates. Most of these errors can be fixed so you can resubmit your return for e-filing.

To check the status of your e-filed return, follow these instructions to Check Status:
  1. Open the TaxCut return you e-filed. You cannot check the status from a duplicate copy.

  2. Go to the File menu, click Check Status.

  3. If your return is rejected, click View Report on the bottom of the screen. The E-file Rejection Report will display showing you all the rejection errors encountered by the e-filing system.

  4. Review the Rejection Report on how to correct the problems. You may switch back and forth between the Rejection Report and TaxCut's Interview screens to fix the problems.

  5. When you have corrected the problems, click the Re-file Return button at the bottom of the Rejection Report screen.

There are some situations in which an e-filed return won't accepted, and you must file your return on standard paper forms. TaxCut will instruct you on how to print and mail your tax return.
