Ken Treat, Senior Vice President, Franchise Development
Ken Treat is responsible for H&R Block’s growth through independent acquisitions and conversions. He leads the teams that identify, negotiate and purchase tax businesses and the efforts aligned with bringing independent business operators into the H&R Block network of franchises. In addition, he heads the company’s targeted franchising initiatives throughout the U.S.

Treat first came to work for his father at H&R Block in 1969. After serving in the Marine Corps, he attended the University of Illinois, during which he again worked for H&R Block while earning his bachelor’s degree. After graduation in 1985, Treat went to work as an Assistant District Manager in Southern California. He was promoted to District Manager and continued this role in several cities in California. After managing various company-owned operations, Treat accepted the role of Executive Vice President for what was then the company’s largest major franchise territory — in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. In this role, he spent 10 years overseeing all operational aspects of 300 major franchise and 225 sub-franchise locations.

In 1998, Treat moved to H&R Block’s corporate headquarters in Kansas City as Vice President, Financial Centers. Treat was named to the senior leadership team for U.S. Tax Services in May 2002 and oversaw H&R Block’s U.S. franchise locations, among other responsibilities. He holds Certified Franchise Executive status from the International Franchise Association Educational Foundation and is a member of the International Franchise Association. In addition, Treat is the Board Chairman of the Council for Electronic Revenue Communication Advancement, a trade association working with the Internal Revenue Service to give input surrounding electronic tax filing and related modernization.
